During 2009, Karl Patel, his new Essence Investments business, and a select group of like minded individuals, developed and subsequently launched the hospitality business that is now branded as CE LA VI, an iconic Asian Bar / Restaurant / Lounge, and Nightclub brand that delivers exceptional guest services, iconic locations with stunning vistas, and a journey of the five senses.
Essence and partners at Iconic Locations, developed and directed the journey from first conceptual prospects through to today’s high profile establishment with venues in Singapore, Taipei, Tokyo, & Dubai, with a growth pipeline that includes rooftop locations in other Asian gateway cities.
CE LA VI's mission is simple: the pursuit of pleasure, passion and play in an inspiring and spectacular setting because “this is the life.”
In early 2010, VALOR SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT was formed by a team of dedicated media and fight sport professionals whose passion had driven them to create a dynamic new fight sport league.
VALOR is a modern vision for the genre of Sports Entertainment where fighting arts and styles integrated during training are applied in the Ring. Standing & flying strikes, combinations, submissions, slams, reversals, escapes, transitions and defensive tactics combine to bring a professional edge and teamwork to this new sport.
Each VALOR event in designed to provide a full entertainment experience with music, performances and audience interaction with ‘on the night’ selection of competing athletes and influence over the points scoring systems applied - meaning fans’ choices can have a direct effect on their team’s ranking in the League standings and the overall winning team.
The IP that was developed is retained by Valor Holdings for licencing or other commercial arrangement with interested parties.
Founded in 2013, LIFESTYLE INVESTMENTS is an F&B Hospitality & Entertainment development group, launching “Marquee” Restaurant, Lounge and Club branded operations throughout the Asian and Middle East region.
Lifestyle’s synergy of F&B brands (owned and licensed) under a common operating business across Asia that commanded valuations in excess of US $ 150 million with presence in some of the regions most prestigious real estate venues.
Lifestyle brands and ventures are recognized as differentiated, vibrant/ high energy destinations that deliver premium dining and entertainment experiences. Lifestyle has handpicked world-class licensing partners whose operations, practices, procedures and systems are aligned with Lifestyle’s core beliefs in demanding and providing excellence.

In 2014 LVMH’s Private Equity arm, LCAPITAL, took a controlling interest in CE LA VI holding company Iconic Locations.
LVMH controls a star-studded portfolio of over 60 elite brands and standalone retailers across multiple categories that include wine and spirits, fashion and leather goods, perfumes and cosmetics, watches and jewellery. These include coveted names like Louis Vuitton, Dom Perignon, Christian Dior, Bvlgari, DFS, Sephora, Lora Piana and many more.
In 2023, the Iconic Locations business [including the CE LA VI brand world-wide] was sold to ADMO holdings of Abu Dhabi. ADMO is a joint venture between the hospitality and private equity company Monterock, and Alpha Dhabi Group (part of the Royal Group conglomerate). ADMO maintains a slate of world-class hospitality brands in its portfolio including; Aman Resorts [Croatia & Venice], Nobu Hotel [Montenegro], One & Only Resorts, Nammos, Coya, Nusr-Et, Clap and Sucre amongst others. CE LA VI sits amongst esteemed company.
With this sale Essence Investments association with the CE LA VI brand and the Iconic Locations international business achieved a final ‘exit’ that began in 2010 with the founding by Karl Patel that kick-started this “world famous” international brand and drove it to become a premium hospitality business, plus selling it not once, but twice, to “best in class” purchasers.
WATERCOOLED is a market leading provider and operator of premium watersports facilities in the United Arab Emirates. Watercooled provides a complete range of water related activities for tourism, leisure and educational marketplaces.
Watercooled was looking for ways to expand and enhance its activity range. During 2017/18, Essence teams worked with management to develop new revenue line prospects including; a private charter fleet, MICE and corporate offerings, interactive tours, personal and group fitness classes (all connected to the water), self-pilot interactive tour operations utilising electric and motorised power watercraft, and acquiring the latest innovations in water-based gadgets and toys - all of which extend the range and availability of guest experiences, delivering compelling high energy rides as well as providing accessible family oriented excitement for full year round activity offerings, along with seasonally inspired promotions and special offers.
Essence teams prepared a comprehensive investment prospectus and commercial structuring as well as securing interim financing for the Middle East based operation. Essence also worked with management to develop a unique franchise model for the provision of five star luxury watersports to facilitate the expansion of its network whilst critically providing substantial returns to it’s franchisees. The impact of the Pandemic meant that Watercooled retrenched operations to emphasise it’s UAE hotel partnerships.
Beginning in 2019, Essence was asked to work with the the SDG IMPACT FUND, a leading, globally recognized Donor Advised Fund, to identify and structure large scale projects with humanitarian objectives.
Together, Essence and SDGIF work to provide customizable, large-scale solutions to help donors, companies, and nations achieve their unique charitable goals and maximize global impact through projects that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDG).
The SDGIF utilizes a 501(c)(3) structure as a vital part of a comprehensive toolset and ecosystem to optimize impact and resiliently blended capital flows via a fully independent Donor Advised Fund Platform, Trusts and Charitable Endowments. SDGIF exists as a global family, within a web we call our Global Impact Ecosystem.
SDGIF provides customizable, large-scale solutions to help individuals, companies, and nations achieve their unique impact goals and maximize global impact. It matches capital to projects that facilitate foundational, lasting upliftment world-wide. The business is committed to collaboration at the speed of trust. Established in 2020, SAFE HARBOUR ENTERPRISES is a tactile modern day trading group with a global footprint. It’s market footprint ranges from Asia, South East Asia, Europe, North America, Canada, and Australasia.
The management and operations team is spread across the globe and each member brings with them a wealth of knowledge and a plethora of experience in various fields.
As a global sourcing company Safe Harbour has direct access to “Go To Market” products and new innovations, can source and provide its clients with the latest medical technologies and PPE products sourced from various geographic locations.
Safe Harbour is highly responsive to niche and challenging requirements, and the operational speed to market with regards to new products is second to none.
In 2023 Essence began a cooperative partnership with a family owned business and its consultants in a journey to consolidate Essence’ various commodities trading interests.
For over 30 years, Synsol AG has taken great pride in providing partners with market leading sourcing, and supply chain solutions via an excellent network of major producers and a dedicated team of professionals ensuring that client’s exact needs are consistently met.
Today, the joint-venture business resulting from that partnership leverages its ability to take on difficult and complex projects, delivering effective solutions quickly and transparently by targeting quality conscious blenders who offer specifically designed and tailored solutions, blends and products, to specific end users.
SYNSOL SG PTE LTD offers its business partners a wide range of supply chain solutions, with inventory management, risk management, sourcing & procurement, bunkering, logistics and trade administration.
Synsol operates within the areas of production, storage, distribution and marketing of Base oils, Lubricants, Petrochemicals, Refined Petroleum products and various Crude oils as well as sourcing and trading Precious Metals.
As a principal trader Synsol sources quality products in a selected local market, before distributing them in a naturally aligned exit market. Synsol is especially focused on sourcing and supply chain solutions, having built an excellent network of major refinery producers over many years, supported by a small yet dedicated team of professionals ensuring that the company’s clients exact needs are consistently met, year after year.
Synsol has strategic presence and access to “on the ground” expertise wherever Crude and other commodities are produced, refined, traded, stored, and supplied to its Clients.

OUR ESG ACTIVITY
When attending an Oxford University talk given by President Bill Clinton, Karl Patel and his then flat-mate and business partner Reed Paget heard a startling statistic - that 2 billion people, ¼ of the world’s population, would never drink a clean glass of water.
The absurdity of this fact stirred the idea of “water for water”, and Belu the bottled water brand, [giving 100% of its profits to clean water charity WaterAid (to build sanitation and irrigation systems around the world)] was born.
From its early days, sourcing artesian wells with the purest water in the UK, packaging that caused the least impact on the environment, and investment from most ethical of sources (Anita Roddick – founder of The Body Shop, and Sir John Bird – founder of the “Big Issue” publication), through to establishing the company as a not for profit foundation, and ensuring millions of pounds of investment have reached some of the most vitally affected communities in the world, building life-saving sanitation and irrigation systems, Belu has been a “role model” as social and philanthropic enterprise, and one Karl Patel is very proud to be associated to as co-founder.
Belu Water is a UK-based bottled water brand that distinguishes itself by its commitment to environmental sustainability. It's known for its eco-friendly ethos, with a focus on using recycled and recyclable materials for its packaging. Belu Water also donates 100% of its profits to the charity WaterAid, which helps provide clean water and sanitation to communities in need around the world. Through its dedication to sustainability and philanthropy, Belu Water aims to make a positive impact on both the environment and society.
As part of Essence Investments impact investment and related philanthropic activities, company executive and shareholder, Nigel Harper was engaged in the wider development planning of an international youth sport social initiative. Leveraging decades of experience in sport development, media, production, event planning, operational planning and strategy, Essence Investments helped establish a fund for development, funding support to be developed with United Nations aligned SDG Impact Fund with project management and implementation managed by the Youth Charter, a UK charity.
The Youth Charter and the SDG Impact Fund will now collaborate in realising an exciting sport and physical activity engagement opportunity for the young people and communities of the world.
The resulting "Youth Charter SDGIF" provides a unique first-time opportunity to deliver a youth and community engagement model, framework, and impact matrix that provides outputs and outcomes that deliver against the Sustainable Development Goals.
